Welcome to the Department of Animal Production Labs at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences<\/a><\/span><\/strong>. Our laboratories are dedicated to advancing scientific knowledge in livestock management, providing a specialized environment for high-impact Animal Science research. We aim to equip our students with practical skills in physiology, nutrition, and meat technology to support the local and international livestock industry.<\/span><\/div>\n
The Department of Animal Production Labs plays a vital role in the academic mission of the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences. Through our modern facilities, we foster innovation in Animal Science research, ensuring that our graduates are prepared to address contemporary challenges in animal health and production efficiency. The laboratory is interested in the field of animal physiology and reproductive physiology. It is possible to conduct experiments related to the animal\u2019s physiology, such as various blood tests, including red and white blood cell counts, differential white blood cell counts, ESR analysis, and hemoglobin. The laboratory is also interested in conducting experiments in the field of reproductive physiology, especially examining and analyzing semen and improving its quality by improving diluents. These are all examples, but not limited to them. The animal physiology laboratory contains many devices, the most important of which are a number of compound microscopes, a centrifuge, a water bath, a heater, a distillation device, and a hot plate device. The laboratory was established in 1952 so that undergraduate students would be the most important beneficiaries of the laboratory, as well as graduate students and faculty members later on.<\/span><\/div>\n

The laboratory\u2019s future vision is summed up by graduating students who hold a bachelor\u2019s degree in animal production and are familiar with all scientific and practical experiments and conducting laboratory analyzes in a way that qualifies them to work in governmental and private fields, as well as developing the spirit of scientific knowledge and what is new in laboratory analysis.<\/span><\/h3>\n

      The Animal Nutrition Laboratory in the Animal Production Department provides some specialized devices for analyzing animal feed, educating undergraduate students in animal nutrition. It also conducts various analyses for postgraduate students (master’s and doctoral), as well as students in the fourth stage of research graduation, whose research addresses nutritional aspects. Additionally, the laboratory provides scientific consultations to students in other agricultural colleges regarding chemical analysis and various procedures.<\/span><\/h3>\n

      The laboratory of meat technology addresses, in its practical part, the economic importance of animal products, including cattle, buffalo, sheep, and goats, in terms of their breeds, classification, nutritional needs for breeding, how to manage records and enclosures, and the various field operations performed on them. The student learns about the detailed practical and field aspects of the animal’s body. The laboratory is equipped with various devices, including an oven, a home meat grinder, a muscle tenderness meter, a bone hardness measurement device, an electric cutting saw, a light microscope, autoclave, Soxhlet apparatus, protein digestion heater, an incinerator, a digital sensitive scale (200 grams), an incubator, and an acidity measurement device.<\/span><\/h3>\n

      The laboratory was established in 1952 to benefit both undergraduate and postgraduate students in addition to faculty members.<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The laboratory aspires to obtain educational quality system certifications for laboratories, along with methods for their implementation in meat factories and technical foundations for quality control in meat factories and the standard specifications for meat and its products. Assisting researchers and postgraduate students in publishing sound scientific research in accredited scientific journals. Obtaining ISO\/IEC 17025 certification or general requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories, and conducting courses and workshops related to meat technology.<\/span><\/h3>\n

      The Meat Technology Laboratory seeks to provide all the necessary requirements needed by beneficiaries, including undergraduate and postgraduate students and researchers in the laboratory, from the location and scientific equipment to conduct their experiments. This includes the scientific and practical experience available in the laboratory’s supervising professors with academic titles (professor, assistant professor, and lecturer), in addition to specialized technicians operating laboratory equipment.<\/span><\/h3>\n

            Special experiments in the field of fish physiology can also be conducted, such as studying the effect of certain dietary additives on the growth, blood picture, and biochemistry of the fish. It enables the conduct of experiments related to this field, such as extracting DNA and RNA, determining the genetic structures of targeted genes, utilizing Restriction Enzymes to identify genetic variations, and providing training courses related to molecular genetics. The laboratory is equipped with several microscopes, an incubator, hoods, autoclave, PCR machine, REAL-TIME PCR, sensitive balance, micro-centrifuge, stirrer, small incubator water bath, hot plate, red and yellow tubes, micro-pipettes, electrophoresis apparatus, pH meter, and a UV light device.<\/span><\/h3>\n

It can conduct analyses related to animal nutrition, such as moisture, ash, fibre, protein, ether extract, carbohydrates, etc. Additionally, experiments in the field of enzymes, such as catalase and peroxidase enzymes, can be performed. The laboratory is equipped with various devices including an oven, an incinerator, Soxhlet apparatus, fibre measurement device, Kjeldahl apparatus, hot plate, electric blender (stirrer), protein digestion heater, and a sensitive digital balance with a capacity of 200 grams.<\/span><\/h3>\n

                The laboratory was established in 2007 to benefit postgraduate students and faculty members. It is also available for use by undergraduate students.<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

                The Animal Nutrition Laboratory seeks to provide all the necessary requirements for those benefiting from its work, including undergraduate and postgraduate students and researchers in the laboratory. This includes providing them with the necessary scientific equipment, in addition to the scientific and practical experience available in the laboratory’s supervising professors (professors, assistant professors, and lecturers), as well as specialized technicians operating the laboratory equipment.<\/span><\/h3>\n
