Welcome to the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Gardening Labs at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences<\/a><\/span><\/strong>, University of Baghdad<\/a><\/span><\/strong>. Our laboratories are dedicated to the science of plant cultivation and aesthetic design, providing a specialized environment for advanced Horticultural research. We focus on areas such as plant physiology, nutrition, and post-harvest care to enhance the quality and sustainability of ornamental and food crops.<\/span><\/div>\n
The Department of Horticulture and Landscape Gardening Labs is a key pillar of academic excellence within the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences. By integrating artistic landscape design with rigorous scientific analysis, we support innovative Horticultural research that addresses environmental and urban challenges. Our facilities, including care and storage units, are equipped to provide students and researchers with hands-on expertise in modern gardening techniques.<\/span><\/div>\n

The laboratory specializes in the field of caring for and preserving fruits and vegetables. Various experiments related to care and storage can be conducted, such as analyzing the hardness of different fruits, the percentage of soluble sugars, the total solid content, and measuring the fruit’s vitamin content, especially Vitamin C.<\/span><\/h3>\n

Additionally, specific experiments can be performed in the preparation of solutions and growth regulators, as well as drying samples to measure the dry weight. The laboratory is equipped with various devices, including incubators, laminar flow hoods, distillation apparatus, scales, heating plates, refrigerators (for storing fruits), respirometers for measuring fruit respiration, ovens, spectrophotometer, pH meter, hardness tester, Handrefractometer, and electronic foot.<\/span><\/h3>\n

The laboratory was established in 1963 to benefit both undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as faculty members.<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The laboratory of plant tissue culture is concerned with cultivating plant parts such as leaves, nodes, shoot tips, or any other part of the plant outside the living plant body for plant propagation and the production of active compounds and secondary metabolites. It aims to produce virus-free plants and enhance plant breeding and improvement through cultivating these parts in sterile agricultural environments and incubating them under controlled conditions of temperature, light, humidity, and sterilization. The laboratory is equipped with the necessary devices for postgraduate students to fulfill research requirements, including autoclaves, water distillation apparatus, hoods, sensitive digital balances, hot plates, magnetic stirrers, pH meters, and light microscopes.<\/span><\/h3>\n

The laboratory was established in 1963 to benefit postgraduate students.<\/span><\/h3>\n

    The laboratory aspires to establish a specialized unit for DNA research and gene cloning. Assist in disseminating scientific research for postgraduate students and graduation projects. Obtain ISO 17025 accreditation. Conduct training courses on operating available devices.<\/span><\/h3>\n

    The Central Laboratory for Plant Tissue Culture aims to provide the space and calibrated scientific equipment for conducting the required laboratory experiments by postgraduate students and graduation research project students. This contributes to advancing scientific research in the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences under the supervision of faculty members with higher academic qualifications (Professor) and (Assistant Professor), in addition to specialized technicians operating the devices and equipment.<\/span><\/h3>\n
