The Department of Animal Production is considered one of the core pillars of the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences. It aims to prepare specialized professionals in livestock development and the application of advanced scientific technologies to enhance productivity and improve product quality.<\/span><\/div>\n

The Department of Animal Production is one of the oldest departments of the college, established with the establishment of the College of Agriculture in 1952 with three branches (animal breeding, poultry, and dairy). In 1963 the Dairy Division was merged with the Department of Food Industries, and in 1988 the Fish Division was established with its integrated laboratories and staff that time, to form a third specialization in the Animal Production Department, in addition to the two majors of poultry and ruminant animals (cows, sheep, and goats). The department was chaired by Dr. George B. McIlroy from the University of Arizona according to the agreement between the College of Agriculture \/ University of Baghdad and the University of Arizona. The first faculty in the department included three members (including the head of the department), one of whom was Iraqi, in addition to specialists in the fields of animal production from the Ministry of Agriculture, who were assigned teaching tasks in the Department of Animal Production. The number of students in the Department of Animal Production for the first academic year was (6) students, while the number for the academic year 2014-2015 was more than (150) students. The master’s study was found in the department in 1966-1967 with two students, one of whom specialized in sheep breeding and the other in poultry breeding. They graduated in 1969-1970. The Ph.D. study was founded in 1986 with the acceptance of (6) students.<\/span><\/div>\n
