Department of Soil Science and Water Resources specializes in the study of soil physics and chemistry as well as water management. It aims to prepare qualified engineers capable of land reclamation, designing modern irrigation systems, and conserving natural resources to ensure sustainable agriculture and high productivity.<\/span><\/div>\n

The College of Agriculture was established in 1952, and at that time, contained only two main scientific departments, the Department of Plant Production and the Department of Animal Production. Soil Science was one of the main sub-disciplines within the plant production specialization in the college. Where it was called the Fields, and the Soil Department became independent in 1963, due to the importance of this scientific specialization in the general field of agricultural sciences. The department is currently named “Department of Soil Sciences and Water Resources” after it was the Department of Soil and Water Sciences in previous years. The role of the department emerged clearly as a specialization in the field of soil sciences after the major transformations in the agricultural sector, especially after adopting the issue of reclamation of salinized soils, which is the cornerstone of the development of agriculture in Iraq. The impact of climate change in general on the water resources of the country, including the lack of precipitation. The first graduates of the Department of Soil Sciences and Water Resources in 1963, the number of students was 9 students. The Department of Soil Sciences and Water Resources is a specialized department in the sciences related to soil and water. The department includes five main specialized axes, which are: Soil Physics; Soil chemistry; Surveying, classification, and management of soil; Soil fertility, fertilization techniques, and plant nutrition; Soil microbiology.<\/span><\/div>\n
