The College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences at the University of Baghdad organized a seminar session as part of the activities of the Plant Protection Department during its cultural season. The session was presented by the Ph.D. student Iyad Yasin Mohammed Amin and was titled “Managing Social Insects of Urban Importance.”<\/span><\/h3>\n

The session was chaired by the head of the graduate studies, Professor Radi Fadel Al-Jassani. The aim of the session was to understand social insects, especially ants, termites, and yellow jackets, as serious pests in the urban environment worldwide. They are responsible for widespread destruction of wooden structures, mechanical transmission of pathogens, and stinging or biting humans and their pets. With urbanization and trade increasing, some species have spread to urban centres worldwide.<\/span><\/h3>\n

This study focused on efforts to control these pests and the best modern methods used globally to manage them. The session included scientific discussions with the presence of several faculty members from the department and graduate students.<\/span><\/h3>\n
