In the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences at the University of Baghdad, a defence of a Master’s thesis titled “The Impact of Shading and Foliar Spraying with Plant Extracts on the Growth, Yield, and Steviol Glycosides Content in Stevia (Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni)” was conducted by the student Noor Shakir Khushan from the Department of Field Crop Sciences.<\/span><\/h3>\n

The aim of the study is to understand the environmental conditions for the growth of Stevia and its physiological performance, and to determine the effect of foliar spraying with water extract of Moringa leaf powder on growth and leaf yield. Additionally, the study aims to determine the impact of foliar spraying with water extract of licorice root powder on growth characteristics.<\/span><\/h3>\n

The researcher recommends avoiding shading Stevia plants during the spring months, reducing the shading level to less than 50% at the time of harvesting, with a second reduction to 25%. The researcher encourages plant breeders to produce a local variety adapted to withstand high temperatures for cultivation. Furthermore, selecting plant extracts, utilizing optimal treatments, and achieving practical superiority are advised. The Stevia plant is considered a promising alternative for various food and medical uses, replacing harmful table sugar.<\/span><\/h3>\n
