Within the framework of the mutual collaboration between the formations of the University of Baghdad and international institutions and agencies, the Dean of the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences at the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. Amera Mohammed Saleh, welcomed a delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), specializing in various areas of economic and social development in Iraq. The meeting took place in a seminar attended by several guests especially the Representative of the University President “Dr. Sarmed Fuad”, the dean’s assistant for Scientific and Postgraduate Affairs, the dean’s assistant for student affairs, department heads, faculty members, and staffs in scientific departments, as well as postgraduate students.<\/span><\/h3>\n

The seminar aimed at developing irrigation resources and establishing technical cooperation to expand a network of water users’ associations for farmers, with the goal of efficiently managing water and transferring the Japanese experience to Iraq.<\/span><\/h3>\n

The head of the Japanese delegation explained that JICA supports the development and diversification of industries, enhances economic infrastructure, rehabilitates basic living infrastructure, strengthens governance, and outlined the agency’s contributions to agriculture and water consumption reduction in this field.<\/span><\/h3>\n

It’s worth to note that this activity aims to achieve development and sustainability goals within the United Nations’ objectives, directly contributing to goals 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). Additionally, it indirectly addresses some goals, namely goal 1 (No Poverty), 2 (Zero Hunger), 3 (Good Health and Well-being), and 4 (Quality Education).<\/span><\/h3>\n

The dean of the college welcomed the proposals and opinions presented by the delegation and called for more meetings to implement collaboration between the college and the agency.<\/span><\/h3>\n
