To achieve the goals of sustainable development in climate action, the Department of Animal Production\u00a0 at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad, organized a workshop titled “The Impact of Climate Change on the Poultry Industry.” The workshop was delivered by Professor Dr. Ziad Tariq Mohammed Al-Danki and attended by the head of the Department of Animal Production, Professor Dr. Hussam Jassim Bananeh, along with several faculty members and graduate students. The workshop was moderated by Professor Dr. Nasr Nouri Al-Anbari and Assistant Professor Dr. Hamid Razzaq Abbas.<\/span><\/h3>\n

The workshop aimed to identify the most significant climate changes occurring in Iraq\u2019s environment and the various impacts of these changes, particularly the sharp increase in temperatures across most parts of Iraq. It highlighted the increase in the number of sunny days with temperatures exceeding 40\u00b0C by 4.3 days and the rise in tropical nights with temperatures above 20\u00b0C by 2.3 days. The workshop also focused on the sustainability of poultry projects through adapting poultry breeding programs, designing poultry halls, and improving ventilation, cooling, and heating systems.<\/span><\/h3>\n

The workshop concluded with the following recommendations:<\/span><\/h3>\n
    \n
  1. \n

    Addressing climate changes in Iraq, especially rising temperatures, by adapting locally designed cooling systems and timing breeding periods, particularly for broiler chickens.<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n
  2. \n

    Collaborating with the National Green Belt Program to reduce desertification, increase the frequency of dusty winds, and decrease the number of dusty days per year. According to the Iraqi Ministry of Environment, the number of dusty days is expected to increase to 300 days per year over the next two decades, up to 2050.<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
