At the gracious invitation of the Ministerial Committee for Sustainable Development \/ Planning and Follow-up Department \/ Ministry of Water Resources, both Professor Kazem Dili Hassan and Dr. Aseel Muhammad Hassan Hatef participated in the workshop titled “Developing Quinoa Production as an Alternative to Wheat to Address Water Scarcity and Achieve Sustainable Development Goals.” Professor Kazem Dili Hassan gave a lecture entitled “Quinoa: A Project for Climate Sustainability and Food Stability in Iraq,” in which he discussed how this crop meets climate sustainability goals, defined as “bringing about a global change in behaviors to raise environmental awareness in human activities and in the design and implementation of development policies and frameworks.” He highlighted quinoa’s low water requirements, lower carbon footprint compared to rice and wheat, and its remarkable mechanisms for salt tolerance. Dr. Aseel Muhammad Hassan Hatef also delivered a lecture entitled “Quinoa: A Promising Pillar for Food Security in Iraq,” in which she explained the high nutritional value of this crop, which is considered a pseudo-cereal compared to true cereals, giving it unique qualities as a food security crop.<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
