The Ph.D. thesis defense titled “The Effect of Ultraviolet Radiation and Citrullus Colocynthis Fruit Extract on Callus Induced from Rice Embryos in Drought Tolerance and Testing” was conducted at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad. The student, Idris Suhail Najm, from the Department of Field Crop Sciences, aimed to induce callus from the embryos of two rice varieties, Amber and Black, irradiated with ultraviolet rays and treated with concentrations of Citrullus colocynthis fruit extract. These calluses were then cultured in a nutrient medium supplemented with polyethylene glycol. The study also explored the potential for regenerating plants from calluses tolerant to water stress in vitro<\/em>.<\/span><\/h3>\n

The researcher recommended using other auxins and cytokinins to further stimulate callus formation and rooting, as well as applying other chemical and physical stimulants on different rice varieties to understand their effects on drought tolerance and other stress factors.<\/span><\/h3>\n
