The College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences at the University of Baghdad held the defense of a Ph.D. dissertation titled **\u201cDetection of Aflatoxin B1 Produced by Fungi in Stored Maize Using Biosensors and Its Reduction through Chemical, Physical, and Biological Methods\u201d** by student Dhulfiqar Laith Ezzedine from the Plant Protection Department.<\/span><\/h3>\n

The study aimed to develop fast, safe, and cost-effective methods for detecting AFB1 in maize, as well as environmentally friendly and effective methods to reduce the growth of *Aspergillus flavus* on maize grains, thereby impacting the fungus\u2019s toxin production or reducing it in the grains.<\/span><\/h3>\n

The researcher recommended expanding studies to test other mediums for optimal toxin production and conducting independent studies on extracting active compounds from coriander to evaluate their effects on the toxin and the fungus.<\/span><\/h3>\n
