As part of the activities of the Global Entrepreneurship Week, the Department of Animal Production at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences organized a scientific lecture titled “Fish Farming in Rice Fields for the First Time in Iraq.” The lecture was delivered by Professor Dr. Mohammed Shaker Mahmoud Al-Khashali, in the presence of the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Amira Mohammed Saleh, and the Head of the Department, Professor Dr. Hassam Jasim Hussein, along with several faculty members in the department.<\/span><\/h3>\n

The lecture provided a detailed explanation of the importance of this study, where Al-Khashali conducted four field experiments in the fields of the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences at the University of Baghdad involving four master’s students.<\/span><\/h3>\n

The first study included:<\/span>
\n– Determining the optimal stocking density for the growth of cultivated fish in rice fields.<\/span><\/h3>\n

The second study included:<\/span>
\n– Determining the optimal initial weight for the growth of cultivated fish in rice fields.<\/span><\/h3>\n

The third study included:<\/span>
\n– Assessing the impact of organic fertilization on the growth of cultivated fish in rice fields.<\/span><\/h3>\n

As for the fourth study, it included:<\/span>
\n– Rearing different species of fish in rice fields.<\/span><\/h3>\n

It is worth noting that these experiments and studies are the first of their kind conducted in Iraq, starting in 2018 under the supervision of Professor Dr. Mohammed Shaker Al-Khashali. The results have been very positive, suggesting the possibility of generalizing and applying these experiments. The studies recommended encouraging rice farmers and fish breeders to adopt this environmentally friendly practice.<\/span><\/h3>\n
