In fulfillment of the sustainable development goals for quality education, the Department of Plant Protection at the College of Agricultural Engineering, University of Baghdad, organized a seminar titled (Artificial Intelligence Technology: Concept and Challenges). The seminar was delivered by Dr. Mustafa Redha Al-Najjar, a lecturer at the Middle Technical College / Baqubah, on Monday, September 15, 2025.
The seminar aimed to:
  • Understand the fundamentals of artificial intelligence: Introduce the concept of AI, its different types (narrow AI, general AI, super AI), and its applications.

  • Identify challenges: Review the ethical, social, and economic challenges associated with AI applications.

  • Data handling: Understand the importance of data in training AI models and recognize the challenges related to its collection, processing, and security.

  • Build basic skills: Provide participants with an overview of the tools and techniques used in developing AI applications.

The seminar covered the following themes:
  • Theme 1: What is Artificial Intelligence?
    Definition of AI and its key concepts.
    Types of AI: From narrow AI to general AI.
    Real-world examples and applications in daily life.
  • Theme 2: Challenges and Ethics in Artificial Intelligence
    Ethical challenges: Fairness, transparency, and bias in data.
    Social challenges: The impact of AI on the job market and the future.
    Security challenges: Data protection and AI system security.
  • Theme 3: Fundamentals of Machine Learning and Data
    Introduction to machine learning and deep learning.
    Importance of data: Types and how to prepare it for training models.
    Common AI tools and platforms (e.g., TensorFlow and PyTorch).
  • Theme 4: Practical Applications and Future Projects
    Mini-workshop: Building a simple image recognition model.
    Showcase of innovative AI applications in various fields.
    Open discussion on the future of AI and available opportunities.
