The College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences / University of Baghdad is the first college of agriculture in Iraq, established in 1952.

Its buildings and fields are distributed over an area covered by the buildings of the deanship, scientific departments, library, study halls, laboratories, fields and orchards designated for training students and for conducting research and experiments of professors and postgraduate students. The period of study a master’s degree is two years, and for a doctoral degree is three years, according to the system of courses and scientific research.

 

Study System

The period of study in the College of Agriculture to obtain a bachelor’s degree in agricultural sciences in all departments in the college are four academic years according to the semester system (courses). The academic year is divided into two semesters, each of which has a duration of (15) weeks. The period of study for obtaining a master’s degree is two years, and for obtaining a doctoral degree is three years, according to the system of courses and scientific research. And the system of obtaining a doctoral degree by scientific research only, it was applied in the year 2001-2002 for professors.

 

Postgraduate Studies

 A master’s degree was found in the college in 1961 in the Department of Plant Protection, while doctoral study, was found in 1975 in the Department of Field Crops. Postgraduate studies have been developed and all scientific disciplines have been registered in the college.

 

Scientific Departments

The College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences\ University of Baghdad, since its establishment, has been developed in the number of scientific disciplines after the college consisted of one specialization (general agriculture). Now includes ten scientific departments covering all agricultural disciplines. These departments are:

  • Department of Animal Production: It was established in (1952).

  • Department of Extension and Transfer of Agricultural Technologies: It was established in (1952).

  • Department of Food Sciences and Biotechnology: It was established in (1962).

  • Department Field Crops: It was established in (1962).

  • Department of Agricultural Economics: It was established in (1962).

  • Department of Horticulture and Landscaping: It was established in (1963).

  • Department of Soil Sciences and Water Resources: Established in (1967).

  • Department Plant Protection: It was established in (1972-1973).

  • Department of Agricultural Machinery and Equipment: It was established in (1987).

  • Department of Desertification Combat: established in (2013).

 

The scientific research units in the college are:

  • Palm Research Unit.

  • Fish Unit.

  • Biological Control Unit.

  • Medicinal And Aromatic Plants Unit
