Where it was called the Fields, and the Soil Department became independent in 1963, due to the importance of this scientific specialization in the general field of agricultural sciences. The department is currently named “Department of Soil Sciences and Water Resources” after it was the Department of Soil and Water Sciences in previous years. The role of the department emerged clearly as a specialization in the field of soil sciences after the major transformations in the agricultural sector, especially after adopting the issue of reclamation of salinized soils, which is the cornerstone of the development of agriculture in Iraq.
