Brief History

 Postgraduate studies were created in the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences in 1960 in the Department of Plant Protection, after which the rest of the scientific departments, respectively. The departments’ curricula depended on the basic lessons that the postgraduate students in all the departments had to study during the first year (the preparatory year) and some specialization courses, in addition to elective subjects that students had to choose according to their specializations to complete the graduation requirements.

The first master’s and doctoral degrees in each of the scientific departments in the college are:

Department of Plant Protection: The first master’s degree was awarded to (Hikmat Abbas Al-Ani) in 1964, and the first doctorate degree was awarded to (Mohammed Sadiq Hassan) in 1986.

Department of Animal Production: The first master’s degree was awarded to (Jalal Elie Al-Qess) in 1970, and the first doctorate degree was awarded to (Qusai Musa Jaafar) in 1990.

Department of Horticulture: The first master’s degree was awarded to (Jabbar Abbas Hassan Al-Dujaili) in 1975, and the first doctorate degree was awarded to (Ali Obaid Hujairi) in 1992.

Department of Food Industries: The first master’s degree was awarded to (Amer Muhammad Ali Al-Sheikh) in 1972, and the first doctorate degree was awarded to (Farouk Fadel Al-Nouri) in 1979.

Department of Field Crop: The first master’s degree was awarded to (Medhat Majeed Al-Sahuki) in 1970, and the first doctorate degree was awarded to (Baqer Abd Khalaf Al-Jubouri) in 1978.

Department of Agricultural Extension: The first master’s degree was awarded to (Salem Aidan Al-Muaini) in 1974, and the first doctorate degree was awarded to (Salam Dawood Jassim) in 1996.

Department of Agricultural Economics: The first master’s degree was awarded to (Sadaa Thabet Majeed) in 1976, and the first doctorate degree was awarded to (Abdullah Ali Mudhi) in 1996.

Department of Soil Sciences: The first master’s degree was awarded to (Radi Kazem Al-Rashdi) in 1973, and the first doctorate degree was awarded to (Zaydoun Ahmed Abdel-Karim) in 1990.

Department of Agricultural Mechanization: The first master’s degree was awarded to (Youkhana Lazar Zozan) in 1991, and the first doctorate degree was awarded to (Abdul Razzaq Abdul Latif Jassim Al-Zubaidi) in 2004.
