A delegation of international experts from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) conducted a scientific visit to the Palm Research Unit at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad.
The delegation was received by Dr. Ali Adel Abdul Kareem, Head of the Palm Research Unit, along with a number of researchers from the unit. The delegation was briefed on the unit’s activities and objectives in the fields of palm genetic fingerprinting and tissue culture.
The meeting took place in a cordial atmosphere that reflected the researchers’ strong interest in palm research. It included open discussions and scientific exchanges on ways to develop the palm sector.
During the visit, the delegation emphasized the importance of enhancing joint cooperation to support this sector through the establishment of a date palm value chain project and the development of an atlas of Iraqi date palm varieties, expressing its readiness to support initiatives that serve the advancement of the palm industry.
