Estabraq Adnan Mohsen Department of Plant Protection successfully defended her MSc. work with the title “Green synthesis of zinc oxide and copper oxide nanoparticles using curcumin and evaluation of their effectiveness in controlling and inducing resistance against the powdery mildew pathogen Podosphaera pannosa on rose plants (Rosa hybrida)”
The thesis aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of both micro and nano forms of zinc and copper oxides—whether commercially available or synthesized through green synthesis using curcumin—against the Podosphaera pannosa fungus that causes powdery mildew disease in rose plants. The study also sought to enhance certain growth parameters and to identify biochemical reaction products by estimating the activity of the enzymes PAL and peroxidase, as well as calculating control efficiency and the area under the disease progress curve (AUDPC).
The researcher recommended adopting preventive measures in nurseries, especially when temperature and humidity conditions are favorable for the occurrence and spread of powdery mildew on rose plants.
