The Department of Agricultural Machinery and Equipment at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences – University of Baghdad organized a training course entitled “Insulin Resistance” from November 23 to 25, 2025. The course was conducted by Professor Dr. Qais Ahmed Ibrahim, Professor Dr. Mariam Mal Allah Ghazal, and Assistant Professor Dr. Galbui Abdulmajid Nasser.
The course aimed to provide an understanding of the nature of insulin resistance, noting that it is a systemic disease that is not limited to diabetes but disrupts energy balance, inflammation, hormones, and organ functions. Recent studies have shown a concerning global increase in its prevalence, with estimates indicating that approximately 30–44% of the world population suffers from varying degrees of this condition. In the Arab region, insulin resistance has become an emerging health problem due to rising obesity rates, placing a significant burden on healthcare systems and threatening public health, making it essential to understand its causes and risks.
At the conclusion of the course, several recommendations were outlined to reduce the risks of insulin resistance, including: maintaining regular physical activity (the most effective preventive measure), following a healthy and balanced diet, reducing body weight—especially visceral fat—improving sleep quality, managing stress, and undergoing early detection and regular check-ups.
This activity also contributed to achieving certain Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being and Goal 4: Quality Education.
