The Department of Plant Protection, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit, organized a specialized training course titled “Modern Agriculture and Challenges of Safe Pesticide Use for Achieving Sustainable Development” from 23–27 November 2025 in the Plant Protection Hall. The course was held under the patronage of the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Ameera Mohammed Saleh, and supervised by the Head of the Department, Asst. Prof. Dr. Bushra Subeir Abdulsada.
The program included several lectures delivered by Prof. Halima Zgair Hussein, Asst. Prof. Sindab Sami Al-Dahwi, Asst. Prof. Alaa Khudair Hassan, Lect. Dr. Shaimaa Abdulkhaleq, Lect. Dr. Hala Kazem Jabir, Eng. Farouq Hussein Khudair from the Ministry of Agriculture, and Mr. Ali Al-Tamimi from the Scientific Research Authority, with the attendance of faculty members and students.
The course discussed the latest procedures for achieving efficient and sustainable pest control, the importance of determining the pesticide LD₅₀ in biological tests, and the role of nanotechnology and artificial intelligence in managing plant diseases and mycotoxins to ensure safe and sustainable agriculture. It also highlighted the concept of “silent toxins” in crop tissues and emphasized the necessity of integrated pest management, including biological control.
At the conclusion of the course, certificates of appreciation were distributed to participants in recognition of their scientific contributions.
