The College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences at the University of Baghdad hosted the Master’s thesis defense of Alaa Abdul Hussein Jabbar, from the Plant Protection Department. His research is titled: “Identification of the Fungal Pathogen Causing Eucalyptus Canker and Its Control Using Plant Extracts.”
Research Goals
The study aimed to accurately identify the specific fungal pathogen responsible for canker disease in Eucalyptus trees and evaluate its pathogenicity (the ability of the fungus to cause disease).
Key Recommendations
The researcher recommended several sustainable strategies for future agricultural protection, including:
  • Utilizing alcoholic extracts from various medicinal and aromatic plants to reduce infection severity.

  • Expanding the use of bioprevention methods, such as biological treatments and aqueous or essential oil extracts.

  • Focusing on sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives to chemical pesticides.

Congratulations to the researcher on this achievement and we wish him continued scientific success.
