BAGHDAD – The College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences at the University of Baghdad recently organized a technical field visit for senior students from the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Design. The delegation visited the Division of Genetic Resources (Biotechnology Department) at the Seed Testing and Certification Center in Abu Ghraib.
Planned as a core practical component of the Plant Tissue Culture curriculum, the visit provided students with firsthand exposure to cutting-edge biotechnological applications and seed certification protocols.
Bridging Theory and Practice
During the visit, students observed the operational workflows within biotechnology and genetic resource laboratories. Key learning objectives included:
  • Advanced Seed Testing: Understanding the rigorous standards for seed quality and certification.

  • Biotechnology Applications: Observing real-world molecular and cellular techniques used in crop preservation.

  • Genetic Resource Management: Exploring the methods used to document and protect plant biodiversity.

By engaging with industry experts in the field, students were able to bridge the gap between academic theory and professional clinical practice, preparing them for future careers in agricultural research and development.
