Neriman Ali Kazem from Department of Soil Sciences and Water Resources  successfully defended her Ph.D. work with the title (The Impact of Climate Change on the Physical and Hydrological Soil Properties Using Geomatics Techniques in the Eastern Euphrates Project – Basra Governorate.(
The study aimed to analyze the temporal and spatial variability of physical and hydrological soil properties, as well as certain chemical characteristics, within the Eastern Euphrates Project area in Basra Governorate for the period (2002–2025). This was achieved using remote sensing data and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) techniques to identify patterns of change, assess their impacts on soil sustainability, and produce the necessary thematic maps.
The researcher recommended integrating the results of climate analysis into water and agricultural land management policies, with particular emphasis on adapting to rising temperatures and fluctuating rainfall. This can be achieved by adopting water harvesting techniques and improving water use efficiency in line with the changing climatic conditions.
