The Department of Agricultural Extension and Technology Transfer at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences organized a scientific field visit to the Agricultural Extension Directorate for third- and fourth-year students. The visit was conducted as part of the course requirements for Extension Methods and Communication Techniques and Agricultural Engineering Technology Transfer Methods, under the supervision of Dr. Ihsan Radi Hassouni, Dr. Rasool Hadi Hassoun, Dr. Ali Latif Jassim, Dr. Noor Jawad Mirza, and Dr. Israa Jabbar Muhaibis.
This visit aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
During the visit, students were introduced to the administrative and technical structure of the Agricultural Extension Directorate and received a comprehensive overview of the mechanisms and programs used to transfer modern agricultural technologies and implement them in the field. The program included practical demonstrations of extension communication tools—audio, visual, and audiovisual—used to effectively engage with farmers and enhance productivity. Students also learned about the design and production of extension publications and educational posters that support fieldwork activities.
In addition, the visit provided detailed explanations of how to select appropriate extension methods—whether individual, group-based, or mass communication approaches—depending on the extension context and the type of technology being disseminated.
The visit aimed to strengthen the connection between theoretical knowledge and practical application, enabling students to better understand agricultural technology transfer within a real-world professional environment. It also helped them distinguish between various extension methods and tools and apply them effectively to influence farmers’ practices. Furthermore, the visit enhanced students’ ability to present scientific information in a clear and engaging manner, ensuring effective delivery of extension messages and preparing qualified graduates capable of promoting and implementing modern agricultural engineering technologies.
