Organized by the Department of Soil Sciences and Water Resources, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit, a specialized scientific training course entitled “Decision-Making and Smart Agriculture Applications: Interpolation and Extrapolation in Geostatistical Methods” was held under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, Prof. Dr. Ameera Mohammed Saleh, and under the supervision of the Head of the Department, Assist. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Abdulwahab Abdulredha, with the attendance of several faculty members from the department.
The course aimed to highlight the fundamentals of geostatistics and its role in smart agriculture, explain the differences between interpolation and extrapolation approaches, and introduce the most important spatial interpolation methods, supporting software, and their applications in agricultural resource management.
The program included valuable lectures delivered by Prof. Dr. Qusay Abdulrazzaq Waheeb, Lecturer Mazen Fadhil Khudair, and Assistant Lecturer Afrah Kadhim Salman.
The course concluded with several key recommendations, most notably the development of local capacities in geostatistical analysis, the use of extrapolation techniques in future planning, and the integration of spatial analysis into agricultural management strategies while keeping pace with technological advancements to ensure sustainability.
This course aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure).
