Ghasaq Malik Suwadi from  Department of Animal Production successfully defended her MSc work with the title ” Monitoring Selected Drought and Desertification Indicators in the Al-Salman Area under the Conditions of the Samawa Desert Using Geomatics Techniques”
The study aimed to assess and classify the physical and chemical properties of soils in the study area and determine their suitability for use. It also employed Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing techniques to identify and delineate lands affected by desertification through the use of spectral indices.

The researcher recommended adopting the gypsum spectral index for salinity monitoring, in addition to cultivating drought-tolerant crops in the southwestern part of the study area. The thesis also emphasized the importance of planting native species to stabilize the soil and combat wind erosion.
