The Department of Soil Sciences and Water Resources, in collaboration with the Women’s Affairs Unit and the Continuing Education Unit, and in coordination with the Ministry of Health / Medical City Department / Oncology Teaching Hospital, organized a scientific awareness lecture entitled “The Importance of Early Detection of Breast Cancer.”
The lecture was delivered by Dr. Yusra Jamal Abdul Razzaq, a specialist in oncology and endocrinology, under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Ameera Mohammed Saleh, Dean of the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, and under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Abdulwahab Abdulridha, Head of the Department of Soil Sciences and Water Resources. The event was attended by a number of faculty members and students.
The lecture highlighted the significance of regular screening and early detection of breast cancer, emphasizing its crucial role in improving treatment outcomes, increasing survival rates, and reducing potential complications. It also addressed the early warning signs of the disease, modern diagnostic approaches, and key preventive guidelines, in addition to the importance of routine medical examinations in supporting timely diagnosis.
The event also provided an opportunity for attendees to engage in discussion and raise questions, creating an interactive learning environment that contributed to strengthening participants’ awareness of the importance of early detection and preventive healthcare practices.
This activity forms part of a series of awareness initiatives aimed at promoting a culture of health prevention and enhancing community awareness of cancer-related diseases. It reaffirmed that early detection is a fundamental step toward protecting lives and safeguarding women’s health. The event also reflects the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being.
