In a step reflecting its commitment to promoting a culture of volunteerism and strengthening environmental responsibility within the university campus, and in line with quality assurance requirements and institutional and individual performance evaluation standards, the Department of Desertification Combat at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences organized a voluntary campaign under the supervision of the Head of the Department, Asst. Prof. Dr. Afaq Ibrahim Jumaa.
The campaign involved planting and transplanting a number of trees with the aim of greening the surroundings of the department and the college and improving their environmental landscape in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 13 on Climate Action and Goal 15 on Life on Land.
The initiative included afforestation activities and the planting of various tree and shrub seedlings suitable for the university environment. These seedlings were provided by Al-Rasheed Municipality / Agricultural Division in cooperation with Engineer Ali Jassim and Engineer Alia Dawood, reflecting institutional collaboration in supporting environmental initiatives.
The campaign was carried out through self-driven efforts and active participation by the Head of the Department of Desertification Combat along with a number of faculty members, embodying the spirit of teamwork and reinforcing responsible contributions toward achieving a distinguished and sustainable university environment.
In this context, the department emphasized that the campaign represents an extension of its ongoing approach to adopting green voluntary initiatives, noting that similar campaigns have been implemented in nearby areas as part of efforts to combat internal desertification in line with the department’s mission, objectives, vision, and role in community service.
