Organized by the Department of Food Sciences at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad, a training course entitled “Standard Specifications and Their Role in Food Safety” was delivered by Professor Dr. Ilham Ismail Al-Shammari and Lecturer Dr. Noor Shukr Ahmed. The course was attended by the Dean of the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, Professor Dr. Ameera Mohammed Saleh, the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, Professor Dr. Osama Kadhim Jabara, the Head of the Department, Professor Dr. Shaimaa Saadi Lafta, along with a number of faculty members and students of the department.
The course aimed to clarify the concept of standard specifications, their types, methods of formulation, the authorities responsible for issuing them, and their significance. It also highlighted the essential requirements that must be followed to ensure food safety and consumer health, in addition to identifying appropriate conditions for storing both raw materials and final products.
The course recommended adherence to precise standards and the implementation of standard specifications in line with available resources to ensure the sustainability of essential resources. It also emphasized enhancing production efficiency through quality control and monitoring of local and imported goods and products, as well as expanding Arab and international cooperation in fields related to standardization and quality control. Furthermore, the course stressed the importance of strengthening coordination among relevant authorities to improve the efficiency of the industrial sector.
This training course aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being and Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, through promoting awareness of the importance of applying standard specifications, quality systems, and quality control measures to ensure the safety of food products and enhance the efficiency of the industrial and food sectors.
