Saad Jawad Kadhim from Department of Plant Protection successfully defended his Ph.D. work with the title ” The Effect of Soaking and Spraying with Melatonin on the Rate and Duration of Grain Filling and Grain Yield of Rye”
The dissertation aimed to improve seed viability and seedling growth, investigate plant behavior, enhance plant growth, and increase the number of tillers following seed priming, as well as to determine the effects of seed priming and melatonin spraying on growth traits and seed yield.

The researcher recommended applying melatonin sprays twice during the growing season: once at the tillering stage and again at the heading stage, in order to combine their effects on growth and yield. He also recommended investigating the use of melatonin in combination with other plant growth regulators or nutrients and identifying the most effective combination for increasing yield.
