The Department of Agricultural Machines and Equipment at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad, organized a celebration on the occasion of World Arabic Language Day. The event was attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Amera Mohammed Saleh, the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, Professor Dr. Jalal Hameed Hamza, and the Assistant Dean for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Munim Khamees Mukhlif, along with a number of faculty members and staff of the college.
The celebration began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran and the reading of Al-Fatiha for the martyrs of Iraq and Gaza. In her speech, the Dean of the College addressed the role of the Arabic language in literary, cultural, and scientific activities, emphasizing its rich historical heritage. Following that, the head of the Machines and Agricultural Machinery Department, Assistant Professor Dr. Alaa Kamel Sabr, gave a speech highlighting the importance of organizing such celebrations. Subsequent speeches were delivered by esteemed professors who emphasized the significance of the relationship between the nation and its language, considering it the language of the Holy Quran, chosen by Allah to hold such a prestigious position.
Dr. Talal Khalifa Salman, a lecturer in the Department of Arabic Language at the College of Education, discussed the topic of the Arabic language between the past, present, and future. He emphasized the importance of individuals taking pride in their language. Dr. Nabil Mohammed Salman, a lecturer in the College of Media for Media Language, delivered a lecture titled “The Problem of the Arabic Language between Formal and Colloquial Arabic.” He stressed the importance of avoiding colloquial Arabic as it can be a destructive means to disintegrate the Arab nation.
Following that, Dr. Bushra Abd Atiya delivered a lecture titled “The Role of Iraqi Law and Educational Institutions in Safeguarding the Arabic Language.” Finally, Dr. Ahmed Ali Hussein from the Desertification Department concluded the event by reciting a poem in defence of the Arabic Language.
