The Department of Animal Production, College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad, organized an international scientific symposium entitled “The Importance of Zeolite – Vermicomposting and its Role in Improving Agricultural and Animal Production.” The symposium was held under the patronage and presence of the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Amera Mohammed Saleh, and under the supervision of the Head of the Department of Animal Production, Professor Dr. Hussam Jasim Hussein Banana. The event was attended by several specialized professors from the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, as well as experts from the University of Baghdad, lecturers from the public and private sectors, and faculty members of the college along with its students.

The symposium opened with recitation of verses from the Quran, followed by speeches from the Dean and the Department Head, welcoming the esteemed guests. The representative of Nature Resources Company also delivered a speech.

The symposium included several lectures on zeolite and its importance:

  1. The first lecture, titled “Properties of Zeolite,” was delivered by Professor Dr. Khalil Mohammed Khalil from the Hashemite University, Jordan.

  2. The second lecture, titled “The Use of Zeolite in Water Treatment,” was presented by Advisor Abdul Nasser Mahdi from Jordan.

  3. The third lecture, titled “The Effect of Zeolite in Ammonia Removal from Poultry Fields,” was given by Professor Dr. Amar Hussein Jawad from the University of Kufa.

  4. The fourth lecture, on “The Effect of Zeolite on Soil Fertility and Crop Productivity,” was delivered by Professor Dr. Iman Qasim Mohammed from the Department of Soil Sciences and Water Resources, College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad.

  5. The fifth lecture, titled “The Effect of Zeolite on Soil Chemistry,” was presented by Professor Dr. Kazem Maki Nasser from the Department of Soil Sciences and Water Resources, College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad.

  6. The sixth lecture, titled “The Effect of Adding Zeolite and Agricultural Sulfur on the Availability of Phosphorus from Phosphate Rock and the Growth and Yield of Yellow Corn in Calcareous Soil,” was given by Assistant Professor Dr. Ashraf Mohammed Ashraf from the Department of Soil Sciences and Water Resources, College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad.

  7. The seventh lecture, on “The Effect of Zeolite in Improving Potato Crop Productivity,” was presented by Lecturer Ahmed Farhan Al-Hamdani from the Natural Resources Company.

At the conclusion of the symposium, the Dean expressed appreciation for the efforts exerted by everyone to make the international symposium successful. Certificates of appreciation were then distributed to the participants.
