A Workshop Discussed by the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences
The Department of Animal Production at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad, organized, as part of the department’s cultural season and in pursuit of sustainable development goals (decent work and economic growth), in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit and in the presence of the Head of the Animal Production Department, Professor Dr. Hussam Jasim Hussain Bananah, along with several faculty members and postgraduate students, a workshop titled “Management of Poultry Projects During Crises,” presented by Professor Dr. Ziad Tareq Aldenki.
The workshop aimed to introduce the science of crisis management in general, the types of crises in poultry projects, and how to confront these crises, in addition to sustaining poultry projects during epidemic crises, such as the avian influenza epidemic in 2005 and the poultry production accumulation crisis during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The workshop’s recommendations included addressing poultry project crises through seven steps: planning, appointing a spokesperson, commitment to honesty and credibility, keeping employees informed of developments, communicating with customers and suppliers, and using social media. In addition to these steps, collective disposal of live birds during crises and utilizing the carcasses of dead birds for the sustainable development of agricultural land are necessary.
