In pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals in the quality education, and in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit, the Department of Animal Production organized a workshop entitled “Environmental Awareness and its Role in Combating Climate Change.” The workshop was attended by the Head of the Department of Animal Production, several faculty members, and graduate students. The workshop was conducted by international trainer Mr. Osama Al-Bayati, a faculty member in the Department of Animal Production and a graduate of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).

The workshop aimed to:

– Define the difference between weather and climate.
– Explain the phenomenon of global warming.
– Define greenhouse gases and their negative effects on the global climate.
– Emphasize the importance of personal environmental awareness in combating climate change.
– Discuss the main aspects of environmental awareness (food, transportation, waste management, water).

The workshop recommended the adoption of personal environmental awareness as a fundamental pillar in combating climate change, through:

– Reducing energy consumption.
– Using environmentally friendly modes of transportation.
– Recycling and reusing.
– Reducing water consumption.
– Purchasing local and sustainable products.

The workshop underscored that every individual can contribute to combating climate change by adopting environmentally responsible behaviors. This workshop is part of the University of Baghdad’s efforts to promote environmental awareness and enhance sustainability.
