At the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad, a defence of the doctoral dissertation entitled ‘The Effect of Irrigation with Acidic Water on the Availability of Phosphorus, Iron, and Zinc in Calcareous Soil and the Productivity of Cabbage’ was conducted by the student Firas Wad Allah Ahmed from the Department of Soil Sciences and Water Resources.

The study aimed to demonstrate the effect of irrigation with acidic water and the addition of levels of phosphorus, iron, and zinc to the soil on the availability of phosphorus, iron, and zinc, as well as the productivity of cabbage and its nutrient content. Additionally, it examined the effect of water acidification on fertilizer use efficiency.

The researcher recommended the use of commercial sulfuric acid with irrigation water to the soil in calcareous soils to reduce soil alkalinity and increase nutrient availability. Furthermore, the study suggested investigating other soil amendments that contribute to managing calcareous soils.

Congratulations to the student and wishing them continued success.
