The Department of Animal Production at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad, organized a workshop titled “Methods of DNA Extraction from Various Tissues” as part of achieving the sustainable development goal of (quality education). The workshop was presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Bassam Ghazi Musa Al-Khatib, and attended by the Dean of the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, Professor Dr. Amira Mohammed Saleh, the Head of the Animal Production Department, Professor Dr. Hussam Jassim Bananh, along with several faculty members and postgraduate students.

The workshop aimed to explain the mechanism of extracting genetic material from various tissues such as solid and fresh blood, hair, insects, and bones. It highlighted the differences between extraction methods, common mistakes, and ways to avoid them. The workshop also elucidated the nature of restriction enzymes, their working mechanism, how to conduct their specific reactions, read the results, and identify different alleles. The workshop included a scientific visit from a group of professors from the College of Veterinary Medicine as part of the scientific collaboration between the colleges of the University of Baghdad.
