To achieve the goals of sustainable development in quality education, Professor Dr. Talal Anwar Abdul Karim from the Department of Animal Production participated in a workshop titled “Fundamentals of Publishing in Reputable Scientific Journals,” which was held at the College of Science at the University of Baghdad. The workshop was attended by the Dean of the College of Science, Assistant Professor Dr. Raed Faleh Hassan, along with a number of students, faculty members, and individuals involved in academic promotion committees.

The workshop aimed to empower researchers by teaching them how to effectively and proficiently publish their research, achieve scientific impact, and contribute to the advancement of knowledge. It focused on enabling them to acquire skills in selecting the appropriate journal, understanding its criteria, and teaching them how to systematically write scientific articles. The workshop also guided participants on handling the review and evaluation processes and achieving scientific impact through choosing peer-reviewed journals and publishers for their research. Additionally, it covered the latest developments in the requirements and tools for scientific publishing, the standards for publishing in reputable scientific journals, and journals with global impact factors, aiming to familiarize participants with these aspects and enhance the scientific and research levels of faculty members and researchers. This, in turn, would elevate the reputation and global ranking of the University of Baghdad, which considers this aspect as one of its ranking criteria.

The workshop highlighted the importance of reputable scientific journals in strengthening universities and discussed the history and publishing mechanism of the Iraqi Journal of Agricultural Sciences as a model for reputable scientific journals. It also addressed the global impact factor of scientific journals and the publication within the classifications of Thomson Reuters, Scopus, and Clarivate. The workshop emphasized the proportion of applied research completed within the scientific research plan that addresses local industrial or economic issues, providing positive outcomes to the total research output. Other related topics included scientific research, publication requirements in reputable scientific journals, and the growing interest of universities and global research centers in publishing their scientific research results in peer-reviewed outlets that adhere to strict scientific standards. These outlets include specialized scientific journals and conference proceedings, aiming to facilitate knowledge exchange and the continuation and integration of research results and objectives.

The workshop underscored that scientific journals are a vital information artery in libraries and information centers, particularly academic libraries that give special attention to scientific journals in various fields of knowledge. It highlighted the increasing interest in publishing to familiarize scientists and researchers with research findings and study solutions through reading published research, confirming that scientific publishing achieves significant and accurate accomplishments.
