Defending a Doctoral Dissertation at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences about Camel Milk and its Use in Therapeutic Applications
The College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences at the University of Baghdad has held a defense for the doctoral dissertation titled “Isolation and Characterization of Alpha-Lactalbumin from Camel Milk and its Use in Some Therapeutic Applications” by the student Zaid Ali Haddad from the Department of Food Sciences.
The study aimed to isolate and purify alpha-lactalbumin from camel milk using ion exchange and gel filtration techniques, and then to confirm its purity and estimate its molecular weight using electrophoresis. Additionally, the study examined the biological and nutritional activities of alpha-lactalbumin protein through three laboratory experiments.
The researcher recommended conducting further studies on other camel milk proteins and camel whey in particular, due to their high biological properties. He also suggested conducting additional therapeutic studies on the potential benefits of this protein and its peptides, such as its role in reducing blood pressure and inhibiting the ACE enzyme. Congratulations to the researcher on this success.
