A master’s thesis defense was held at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad, for the thesis titled “The Effect of Adding Bentonite and Organic Fertilizer on the Growth and Yield of Sorghum in Desert Soil under the Conditions of Al-Samawa Badia” by the student Latif Rajewi Shalash from the Department of Desertification Combat.

The study aimed to determine the impact of adding levels of bentonite on certain physical and chemical properties of the soil and to study some growth and yield indicators of sorghum under the conditions of Al-Samawa Badia, as well as to understand the interaction effects between levels of bentonite and organic fertilizer on some physical and chemical properties of the soil.

The researcher recommended conducting further studies using different levels and types of organic materials and clay minerals in the reclamation of desert soils. Additionally, the use of organic residues and clay minerals in desert soils suffering from nutrient availability issues and water retention problems was suggested.

Congratulations to the researcher and wishing him further success.
