A defense of the doctoral dissertation titled “Formulating Agricultural Policies to Achieve Food Security in Iraq Using Climate-Smart Agriculture” by Sarah Bassam Ali Al-Qaisi from the Department of Agricultural Economics was held at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad.
The thesis aimed to understand the concept of climate-smart agriculture, its objectives, and the requirements for its implementation, as it is a modern and impactful concept in the agricultural sector. It sought to determine the level of knowledge and adoption of climate-smart agriculture among farmers and the correlation between knowledge and adoption.
The researcher recommended providing farmers with courses on climate-smart agriculture and clarifying its concept. The government should develop preliminary policies and programs and conduct guidance campaigns to train extension workers on new approaches. Additionally, there should be support for private investment and improved coordination between the public and private sectors, which rely on climate-smart agriculture approaches.
Congratulations to the student on her success and scientific effort.
