A seminar organized by the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences
The College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences at the University of Baghdad organized a seminar for the Plant Protection Department as part of the 2024-2025 cultural season. Dr. Qasim Hussein Ahmed delivered a presentation on “Speed Reading.” The session was moderated by the head of the Department of Plant Protection, Dr. Bushra Sabir Abdul Sada. We spend a lot of time reading books, reports, research papers, and daily news. In an age of information explosion and rapid pace, we need to read efficiently in a short amount of time. This is where speed reading occurs, enabling us to quickly absorb a large amount of information. In today’s world, speed reading is one of the essential skills that we must learn to communicate with others, keep up with knowledge, and learn what we need. Speed reading is an advanced skill aimed at increasing reading speed, while maintaining a high level of comprehension and retention. This skill relies on specific techniques and methods that help readers grasp information more quickly while reading texts at a fast pace and with good understanding. Speed reading does not necessarily mean focusing on every single word; rather, it allows for reading longer texts in a shorter time, thus saving time and enhancing cognitive ability.
The seminar included exercises, activities, and discussions on the use of speed reading techniques and methods, attended by several faculty members in the department and graduate students.
