The College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences at the University of Baghdad hosted the defense of a doctoral dissertation titled “Design of a Program for Automatic Detection of Infections in Date Palm Trees” by the student Saba Abdulaziz Hamid from the Department of Agricultural Machinery and Equipment.

The study aimed to compare the performance of two imaging methods for the early diagnosis of date palm infestation by the Dubas bug, as well as to design a program for the automatic detection of infestation in different species and heights of palm trees in central Iraq.

The researcher recommended the necessity of using the infestation severity algorithm in other regions of Iraq, as it was tested in field conditions. Additionally, it was suggested to conduct experiments on other pests to develop an algorithm that aids in detecting infestations.

Congratulations to the researcher, and best wishes for continued success
