The College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences at the University of Baghdad discussed master thesis tagged (Investigation of a virus of the genus Potyvirus that infects cucurbits in some areas of their cultivation in the Baghdad and Diwaniyah governorates) by Hassan Hussein Muhammad from the Department of Plant Protection. The aim of the thesis was to conduct an investigation of the viral species belonging to the genus Y. potato, which infect cucurbits serologically and partially in some cultivated areas in Baghdad and Diwaniyah governorates, with identification of the most prevalent species or species. The concluded including conducting molecular studies on the largest number of samples in other regions of Iraq, taking preventive measures to protect cucurbit crops from viruses Potyviruses group, getting rid of infected plants and bushes, especially those belonging to the cucurbit family, and designing general and specialized primers to detect Potyviruses spread in Iraq, using immunological methods without require RNA extraction.
