The College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences organized a training course titled “Improving Food Security and Environmental Sustainability by Reducing Food Loss and Waste.” Professor Dr. Amira Mohammed Saleh, the Dean, sponsored the event. Professor Dr. Iskander Hussein Ali, Head of the Agricultural Economics Department, supervised it.
The two-day course, held on May 12-13, 2025, covered two themes. Dr. Hawraa Jaafar Al-Wardi explained food loss and waste’s link to food security. Dr. Suad Hussein Ali explored how food waste relates to the green economy.
Key recommendations included smart shopping, recycling leftovers, and proper food preservation. The course also urged educational campaigns in schools to raise awareness. Attendees were encouraged to adopt sustainable practices to reduce waste and protect resources.
