As part of the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences – University of Baghdad’s efforts to support applied research and enhance its role in achieving sustainable development goals, particularly in quality education and climate action, Dr. Abeer Dawood Salman, a faculty member in the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Engineering, participated in the work of the National Committee for the Registration, Accreditation, and Protection of Agricultural Varieties as a member of the research team testing eggplant hybrids.
This participation aimed to evaluate and document plant varieties and hybrids according to precise scientific standards that ensure genetic and productive sustainability, while enhancing the performance of horticultural crops to align with Iraq’s climatic and environmental challenges.
The testing of eggplant hybrids is part of a national strategy to develop improved varieties with high production efficiency, resistance to pests and diseases, and adaptability to sustainable agricultural systems. These efforts contribute to strengthening food security and reducing dependence on imported seeds by adopting locally based certification policies grounded in rigorous scientific research
