The Field Crops Department at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences – University of Baghdad, as part of its cultural season, organized a workshop titled “From Innovation to Ownership: A Practical Guide to Obtaining a Patent.”
The workshop was attended by the Head of the Department, Professor Dr. Ahmed Hameed Saud, along with a number of faculty members and postgraduate students. The lecture was delivered by Professor Dr. Saddam Hakeem Jayad.
The workshop aimed to highlight the importance of innovation and patents in the economic and scientific spheres. It familiarized the audience with the effective laws for protecting intellectual property and the practical steps for issuing patents.
The session covered examples of how to formulate patents, write all their sections, and the application requirements. The workshop recommended focusing on the creative aspect and following the correct procedures and steps issued by the Central Agency for Standardization and Quality Control for patent registration.
It also emphasized clarifying the results obtained from the invention to highlight the innovative step, filling out the patent application form, providing original or certified documents, paying the required fees, and ensuring that the invention is new, industrially applicable, and compliant with morals and public order.
