The Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad, in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, the Psychological and Educational Counseling Unit, and the Department of Plant Protection, organized a workshop entitled “Domestic Violence”, attended by a number of the college’s faculty members and students.
The workshop covered several key topics to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the issue and ways to address it, including:
the concept and types of domestic violence, its causes and motives, the effects of violence on individuals and society, protection mechanisms, intervention methods, and preventive measures.
The workshop aimed to raise community awareness about the seriousness of domestic violence and the importance of combating it. It also sought to help participants identify the forms and early indicators of violence in their surroundings, inform potential victims about their rights and available psychological support, and discuss the role of legal systems in holding offenders accountable and ensuring victims’ safety. Additionally, it promoted understanding of the foundations of healthy family relationships based on affection and mutual respect.
The workshop concluded with recommendations emphasizing the importance of strengthening family bonds to prevent social fractures that may burden individuals and affect society at large, as well as enhancing awareness and proper education to build a cohesive and resilient community.
