As part of the ongoing cooperation and joint efforts among state institutions, Dr. Afaq Ibrahim Jumaa, Head of the Department of Desertification Control at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad, coordinated with Eng. Salah Askar Ali Akbar, Director General of Al-Rasheed Municipality at the Amanat Baghdad.
The meeting discussed mechanisms of collaboration between the College’s Department of Desertification Control and the Al-Rasheed Municipality within the framework of mutual scientific and technical support aimed at promoting a sustainable environment. The Director General kindly directed the donation of various plants produced by the Agricultural Department’s nurseries as part of an environmental partnership initiative to contribute to the greening and afforestation of the University of Baghdad and the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences (Abu Ghraib campus).
Additionally, Eng. Alia Dawood, Head of the Nurseries Division at the municipality, provided two batches of diverse seedlings in support of the proposed cooperation framework.
At the conclusion of the visit, Dr. Afaq Ibrahim Jumaa expressed her sincere appreciation and gratitude to Eng. Salah Askar for his warm reception and commitment to supporting continued cooperation. In turn, the Director General affirmed that the municipality is open to academic collaboration with the college’s faculty and students to strengthen the bonds of scientific and technical partnership.
This initiative contributes to achieving several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 13: Climate Action and Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
