Ahmed Saeed Jassim from Department of Field Crop Sciences successfully defended his Ph.D. work with the title ” Evaluating the Competitiveness of Wheat Varieties Against Weeds Under Different Planting Dates”
The study aimed to investigate the possibility of delaying the wheat planting date to reduce weed growth, as well as to examine the response of broadleaf and narrow-leaf weeds associated with wheat to herbicide applications.
The researcher recommended adopting the second planting date and using wheat varieties with a high competitive ability against weeds. He also recommended using combinations of varieties and herbicides that have a strong ability to compete with weeds while maintaining high productivity.
