As part of its continuous efforts to strengthen the practical aspect and connect students with real-world applications of animal production, the Department of Animal Production at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad, organized hands-on field training sessions for third- and fourth-year students at the college’s site in Abu Ghraib. These sessions were conducted within the courses Sheep and Goat Production, Meat Production, and Animal Physiology.
The practical sessions were supervised by Prof. Dr. Hussam Jassim Hussein Binanah, Head of the Department of Animal Production, who emphasized the importance of field training in refining students’ skills and enhancing their practical competencies in various areas of animal production.
Dr. Howaida Mohammed Khalaf delivered an applied lecture in Meat Production, covering the stages of slaughtering, carcass cutting, and meat classification according to approved scientific and health standards.
Dr. Yaseen Abdul-Salam Hussein presented a field explanation in Sheep and Goat Production, addressing modern breeding methods, health care, and techniques for improving productivity and reproduction.
Meanwhile, Dr. Zainab Adel Mahdi explained the practical aspects of Animal Physiology, focusing on key physiological processes that regulate animal performance and productivity under field conditions.
Students actively participated in the field activities by handling livestock, recording production data, and engaging in applied observations—strengthening the integration between theoretical knowledge and practical experience while reinforcing their technical skills.
This activity is part of the department’s applied training program aimed at bridging the gap between academic concepts and field practice, preparing scientifically and professionally competent graduates. It also supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
  • Goal 2: Zero Hunger – by training qualified professionals capable of advancing sustainable animal production and food security.
  • Goal 4: Quality Education – by providing an applied learning environment that enhances the quality of higher education.
